A parts supplier happened to have a compatible part on the shelf because they serviced a different industry, too. It worked. But that's an exception, not a rule.
Most of the time—and I'd argue 8 out of 10 times—if a supplier claims they can service your vibratory hammer and sell you a Westinghouse generator and fix your AC compressor, they're likely not specialized enough to catch the compatibility details that matter.
My Final Take: Don't Be Afraid of a 'No'
If a supplier says, 'I don't have a universal fit, but I can tell you exactly which machines this gravel grader works on,' that's the supplier you want. They're drawing a boundary. They know their product. They've likely made the mistake themselves and learned from it.
So here's my honest advice: ignore the 'universal' claims. Ask for the list of compatible models. Ask for the hydraulic flow requirements. If they can't give you a straight answer, move on. It's better to pay a little more for a part that's guaranteed to fit than to save $200 on one that doesn't.
